Customers & Projects

Merc's personnel boast a wide experience of precision engineering and are highly skilled at producing all manner of components for a huge range of industries. Our customers appreciate our high quality of engineering and service, and the philosophy at Merc ensures that sub-standard products are simply never acceptable for despatch, whatever the intended final application. Your choice of material is never an issue for us as we work in all types of materials from stainless steel and aluminium, to exotic alloys and metal matrix composites, many of which harbour challenging machining characteristics!

A selection of our most prolific contracts to date are as follows:

SPEARFISH

The Underwater Weapons Division of BAE Systems has for a number of years been the centre of excellence for torpedo design and manufacture in the United Kingdom. Merc's personnel are proud to have manufactured safety critical components for Spearfish, the world's most advanced wire guided heavyweight torpedo.

MILITARY COMMUNICATIONS

Under the current climate, the US Army's Brigade Combat Team rely heavily on digital voice intercom systems, allowing noise-free communications between crew members inside combat vehicles. Merc Engineering supply parts and services supporting the manufacture and assembly of these critical systems.

Merc's expertise of manufacturing all kind of plastics and exotic alloys has enabled the company to grow as a reliable supplier of antenna parts and radio boxes for the infantry's communications systems, an integral part of FIST (Future Infantry Soldier Technology)

POWER GENERATION

Electrical power generation systems involve turbine-powered platforms, utilising miniature precision components, such as air swirlers and fuel swirlers. The degree of engineering accuracy is critical and components are generally of a challenging nature to machine produced from a variation of exotic nickel and cobalt alloys. Merc's regular investments in EDM and Sliding Head technologies have ensured Merc continues to remain at the forefront of the Power Generation market.

METRO MASS TRANSIT EMERGENCY DOORS

As one of the largest train manufacturers in the world, Siemens purchase composite sub-assemblies for their metro systems from their assembly plant in Vienna, feeding markets in Europe, the United States and as far a field as South-East Asia. Emergency doors are manufactured complete prior to assembly in the metro and feature a dual design 'slide and drop' capability for use both between trains and carriages or for direct accessibility from the tracks by rescue personnel. Merc has been involved in the machining and fabrication of components and sub-assemblies from the Oslo and Kaohsiung Metro Detrainment Systems.

"Slingsby Advanced Composites Ltd has worked with Merc for several years now. Their technology is excellent, their people are highly skilled and their culture is a mixture of 'customer first' and 'can do'. With keen prices and a friendly, flexible attitude, what more could a customer ask for?"

GPMG

Merc Engineering have been prototyping and machining small arms and support weapon parts for Royal Ordnance for over 30 years. The General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) can be used as a light weapon, mounted on a bipod. It can also be used in a sustained fire mode, mounted on a tripod and fitted with the C2 optical sight. Versions of the GPMG are mounted on most Army vehicles and certain military helicopters.

ASRAAM

The Advanced Short Range Air-to-Air Missile is a highly manoeuvrable air combat missile capable of engaging modern agile aircraft. With an advanced high-sensitivity infra-red seeker, it can lock onto a target before or after launch, giving the pilot a fire-and-forget capability. Merc's personnel have been primarily involved in the manufacture of nose cones and other front end critical components.
