Merc are delighted to announce the acquisition of local engineering company Bright Spark Precision Engineering. The completion took place in February 2008 and will result in a promising future for both Merc Engineering and Bright Spark, as well as their customers.
Bright Spark is a Nelson-based engineering company based on Lomeshaye Industrial Estate. The firm has been manufacturing precision parts for many prolific clients for over 17 years. Experts in 5 axis horizontal machining, the company’s large machine line-up complements Merc’s extensive investments at Lower Clough Mill.
Employing approximately 15 skilled personnel, Bright Spark is proud to be accredited to AS 9100 offering high quality Aerospace machining. Bright Spark also works heavily within the Motorsport sector.
Merc MD Les Nuttall is pleased to be working with Paul Hanson, the previous owner of Bright Spark who will continue to work with the group as Bright Spark’s Works Manager following the Merc takeover.
Benefiting from more available production space, Bright Spark will allow the Merc Group to expand over the next two years. Both companies will complement each other to offer their existing clients the best possible services, filling the gaps on previous areas for improvement and capacity.
Both Merc & Bright Spark will continue to offer high-quality precision components—Merc’s niche lies in small to medium batch work with prototyping and development an option for the clients who require it. Bright Spark will continue to concentrate on higher yielding batches, utilising large Mill-Turn centres and horizontal machining centres.
